Monday Night Quaterback

My thoughts from around the league in Week 8:

All in all it was a decent weekend in the NFL. Some fairly exciting games, capped with a vintage Brett Favre Monday-nighter. I hope everyone is ready for a long obnoxious week of listening to Brady vs. Manning talk. One interesting note i noticed in a Peter King column was that the week before their match-up, each QB beat his 31st NFL team, meaning they have beaten every team other than their own. I'm sure it will be a good game, but most certainly will not live up to the hype that will be put up around it.

Notes
- As much as it pains me to say, the Browns are morphing into a legitimate middle of the pack AFC team. The saddest part is they would be above average in the NFC. Derek Anderson to Braylon Edwards (I hate Michigan alum not named Foote and Woodley) is potent, although I think that is more Edwards than Anderson. The kid is damn good.
-How in the world do the Titans keep winning. I've never seen a team play so pathetically and keep squeezing out wins. good thing I picked up Vince Young in 3 fantasy drafts huh?
-Speaking of winning ugly, who would have guessed that the Lions would win any games in which Kitna doesn't throw a TD pass? Kevin Jones coming back has helped that team immensely, and further proves that Tatum Bell was simply another product of the Broncos (dirty) blocking scheme.
-The Bears are a train wreck. Remember the other good season they had in the early 2000's? Their follow up campaign to that season is eerily reminiscent to this year's team. I know they have injury issues, but that D looks terrible.
-Get ready for the Donovan McNabb to the Vikings start to talk. A reunion with Brad Childress will probably be a good thing for his career, and it's been clear for a few years that the Eagles need to end their time with the biggest crybaby in pro football.
-Has any team been more unlucky than the Rams? A promising season is totally lost after injury woes with the 3 most important players on the team (Jackson, Bulger and Pace). With as wide open as the NFC is, they certainly would have been contenders with a healthy offense.
-Anyone who wrote off the Chargers early can begin to insert their collective foot in mouth now.
-85 year old Joey Galloway amazes me. Good thing he lost me a fantasy game this weekend. Who would have guessed he would resurrect his career a few years back?
-Hopefully football operates under the laws of Karma. If so Belichek will keep his starters in and continue to run up the score on teams until Brady shatters his knees. I understand it's pro sports, and it's the defenses responsibility to stop the other team, but throwing in the 4th quarter of a blowout with your starters in is low. Hopefully it's bad juju for the Pats. I would love to see Belichek's face when Brady goes down, hopefully he cries, and the tears run down his dirty sweatshirt. maybe he's just trying to make everyone forget about spygate.

Steelers Corner
What a game for the black and gold. Classic Steelers football. Jump out to a lead, and then put on the sleeper hold. Big Ben's resurgence is starting to get fun to watch. He still has a little bit of that Favre mentality that can be mind-numbing at times, but all in all, Wow. Willie shredded the Bengals atrocious D as expected. the pass defense could still use some work, but I bet McFadden's return will help a lot, as Townsend still makes me nervous. The Steelers did what they needed to do, and what they didn't do last week, win a game they SHOULD win. I'm looking forward to the Monday night match-up with the Baltimore Birdies.

Non-NFL Thoughts
-I'm no Yankees fan, but it's hard not to admire Joe Torre. It's good to see that he may be back on the bench this season in another big market.
-We're surrounded by morons. The title moron doesn't do this guy justice.
-Barry Bonds filed for free agency. Here's to hoping he and his shriveled testicles never play another game.
-I hate Florida as much as the next guy. That still doesn't mean Mark Richt isn't an idiot. What a classless move.

PSU / Pens Recap

Well hat a shitty night tonight was. Unfortunately... of maybe fortunately I was stuck at work, so I didn't get to devote all of my attention to the games, so expect better recaps in the future.

I'll start with Penn State. I really expected a better fight. Probably not a win, but not that. The second half was atrocious. As if it wasn't bad enough to watch, having to listen to Kirk Herbstreit slobber over the cock that is THE Ohio State University was terrible. I really wish they wouldn't let guys broadcast nationally syndicated games involving teams that they played for. I deal with it every year with Bob Griese and Michigan. I don't want to listen to your clear bias towards the other team. When Todd Blackledge covers PSU games, at least he has the stones to tell it like it is. Anyways, the defense looked terrible, and I think everyone is ready for the Morelli era to end. Even if I can't directly fault him, I'm still going to blame it on Jay Paterno. Man do I hate him.

Then to the Pens. Nothing caps a dramatic comeback from three down like laying a goose egg in the shootout. That said, I've been moderately impressed with Danny Sabourin. He doesn't exactly have a stout defense playing in front of him, and he held up pretty well, and cleaned up a shaky start, even playing lights out in the shootout. I criticized the decision to bring him in, but I'm warming up to him slowly. To the defense, what a mess. good thing we only picked up Sydor this off season right? Hannan would look good at any price tag on the blue line. I'm so sick of Gonchar and Gonchar Jr. (Whitney), dogging it in their own zone. Therrien needs to lay the hammer down on those two. Nice to see Kennedy get called up, I wish I woould have gotten to watch him more closely. That all being said, on the bright side we stole a point we didn't deserve. I guess I'll take it.

My top 25 picks sucked, but I love it when Florida and USC lose in the same night. All in all, it was a garbage night for sports. the Steelers better not let me down tomorrow. Check in for Pre and Post game posts.

At least this picture made me laugh today...

College Football Top 25 Preview

Alright so I'll just give a quick overview of the weekend in College Football. If you missed Matt ryan do hiz best Doug Flutie impression Thursday against VT, I'm sorry. I still don't think it thrusts him into the top Heisman spot though. The kid played like garbage all the way up until the last 2 minutes.
WVU vs. Rutgers should be moderately interesting, if you're into the new big east where you build a high powered offense and totally ignore your defense. It should be high scoring but Ray Rice won't keep up with Slaton and White. WVU by 10.
USC vs. Oregon is going to be a dog fight. I refuse to pick a winner, and I seriously hope I get a chance to watch this. I pray that Oregon and Dennis Dickson beat the hell out of those sissies from USC.
Florida vs. Georgia. I want to pick Georgia but Tebow is a man child. Florida by 2 TD's.
Cal vs. ASU. Cal's offense is going to rediscover itself sooner or later and I'm still not buying ASU's koolaid. Upset special: Cal by 7.
GAME OF THE DAY
Yeah maybe I'm biased but OSU vs. PSU is the game of the day. Let's hope Morelli steps up in the big game. If he steps up, and the D plays as well as we know it can it could get interesting. I hope the kids from Ohio are ready for what they are getting themselves into in Beaver Stadium. Props to all of my PSU friends who will be a part of it.

Welcome I guess

So I've debated doing this for a while, but it was finally time. Honestly I could care less who reads the site. We'll call it a therapeutic release of my sports based aggression. Hopefully someone will enjoy it. I have a lot of thoughts and opinions and this is my forum to share them. I'll primarily cover hockey and football with the main emphasis being on the Pens, Steelers and Penn State. There will be a small amount of soccer stuff for anyone into that sports niche. I'm sure I'll mention baseball and basketball, but primarily just to talk about their inferiority. I really hate to join the trendy blogger group, but I'm way too lazy to start a REAL website, so this will have to do. I'll be updating at least once daily, maybe you will actually check back.

Welcome to the Gordie Howe Hat Trick.

P.S. For the morons (kidding, kind of) wondering what a Gordie Howe Hat Trick is.
