All in all it was a decent weekend in the NFL. Some fairly exciting games, capped with a vintage Brett Favre Monday-nighter. I hope everyone is ready for a long obnoxious week of listening to Brady vs. Manning talk. One interesting note i noticed in a Peter King column was that the week before their match-up, each QB beat his 31st NFL team, meaning they have beaten every team other than their own. I'm sure it will be a good game, but most certainly will not live up to the hype that will be put up around it.
Notes
- As much as it pains me to say, the Browns are morphing into a legitimate middle of the pack AFC team. The saddest part is they would be above average in the NFC. Derek Anderson to Braylon Edwards (I hate Michigan alum not named Foote and Woodley) is potent, although I think that is more Edwards than Anderson. The kid is damn good.
-How in the world do the Titans keep winning. I've never seen a team play so pathetically and keep squeezing out wins. good thing I picked up Vince Young in 3 fantasy drafts huh?
-Speaking of winning ugly, who would have guessed that the Lions would win any games in which Kitna doesn't throw a TD pass? Kevin Jones coming back has helped that team immensely, and further proves that Tatum Bell was simply another product of the Broncos (dirty) blocking scheme.
-The Bears are a train wreck. Remember the other good season they had in the early 2000's? Their follow up campaign to that season is eerily reminiscent to this year's team. I know they have injury issues, but that D looks terrible.
-Get ready for the Donovan McNabb to the Vikings start to talk. A reunion with Brad Childress will probably be a good thing for his career, and it's been clear for a few years that the Eagles need to end their time with the biggest crybaby in pro football.
-Has any team been more unlucky than the Rams? A promising season is totally lost after injury woes with the 3 most important players on the team (Jackson, Bulger and Pace). With as wide open as the NFC is, they certainly would have been contenders with a healthy offense.
-Anyone who wrote off the Chargers early can begin to insert their collective foot in mouth now.
-85 year old Joey Galloway amazes me. Good thing he lost me a fantasy game this weekend. Who would have guessed he would resurrect his career a few years back?
-Hopefully football operates under the laws of Karma. If so Belichek will keep his starters in and continue to run up the score on teams until Brady shatters his knees. I understand it's pro sports, and it's the defenses responsibility to stop the other team, but throwing in the 4th quarter of a blowout with your starters in is low. Hopefully it's bad juju for the Pats. I would love to see Belichek's face when Brady goes down, hopefully he cries, and the tears run down his dirty sweatshirt. maybe he's just trying to make everyone forget about spygate.
Steelers Corner
What a game for the black and gold. Classic Steelers football. Jump out to a lead, and then put on the sleeper hold. Big Ben's resurgence is starting to get fun to watch. He still has a little bit of that Favre mentality that can be mind-numbing at times, but all in all, Wow. Willie shredded the Bengals atrocious D as expected. the pass defense could still use some work, but I bet McFadden's return will help a lot, as Townsend still makes me nervous. The Steelers did what they needed to do, and what they didn't do last week, win a game they SHOULD win. I'm looking forward to the Monday night match-up with the Baltimore Birdies.
Non-NFL Thoughts
-I'm no Yankees fan, but it's hard not to admire Joe Torre. It's good to see that he may be back on the bench this season in another big market.
-We're surrounded by morons. The title moron doesn't do this guy justice.
-Barry Bonds filed for free agency. Here's to hoping he and his shriveled testicles never play another game.
-I hate Florida as much as the next guy. That still doesn't mean Mark Richt isn't an idiot. What a classless move.
